OUR WESLEY UMC WELCOME
Is this your first Wesley UMC worship service? If so, we want to share with you our Wesley UMC welcome. During the Welcome to Worship part of the service, please record the information you feel comfortable sharing on the yellow sheet on the clipboard as it comes to you. We appreciate your visit, and we would like get to know you better. Please help us by participating in our Wesley UMC welcome and stop by our welcome center in the narthex.
COME TO THE TABLE
The United Methodist Church welcomes all people to share in the sacrament of Holy Communion. At the ushers' invitation, please come to the Lord's Table by the side aisle nearest you. You may receive kneeling at the rail or standing at the center aisle. After receiving the bread and the cup (gluten free wafers are available for those who are allergic to wheat), return to your pew by the center aisle. Simply dip the morsel of bread placed in your open hands into the cup and partake of both together. If you are unable to come forward, alert an usher to your need to be served in your pew. You are welcome at the Lord's Table regardless of the church in which you were baptized. If you have never been baptized, consider your participation in today's celebration of Holy Communion an invitation from Christ to receive the sacrament of Baptism, too, and make your interest known to our pastors.
DISCRETIONARY FUND
The Pastors' Discretionary Fund extends Wesley UMC's love and concern to members of our church family and neighbors in need. During August, $191.84 was expended from this fund to assist people who were previously interviewed by our pastor. Please use the offering plates located near the chancel rail to designate your gift as you come forward to receive Holy Communion.

UMCOR RESPONDS TO FLOODING IN PAKISTAN
With new floods compounding the effects of weeks of inundation across Pakistan, the people of this nation in crisis are in desperate need of a different kind of deluge: the rain of compassion. While the number of deaths so far is relatively low for so extensive a disaster, the United Nations estimates that the number of people affected by the crisis is comparable to the combined toll of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan Kashmir. UMCOR is working with Partners CWS, Muslim Aid, and GlobalMedic to provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene aid. Please give generously to International Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #982450 and help the people of Pakistan survive the worst disaster in memory in their country. Please indicate Pakistan Floods on the memo line of your check.
SCHOOL HAS STARTED: Do you know what your child’s most important school supply is? YOU! Your child’s education is a critical ingredient to his success. Go to open house, meet your child’s teacher. If a child knows you are interested, he or she will be more likely to do better in school. Show that you care! Get involved!
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL: The earliest existing Christian writings are not the Gospels. Rather, they are the epistles—or letters—written by the apostle Paul in the decades immediately following the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. And of all the epistles, none is as unique and powerful as Paul’s letter to the Romans. The adultSunday school class will begin a study of Romans, led by Byron Champlin, in the parlor at 9:00am, Sunday, September 12. There will be no outside reading or study guide; just bring your Bible and be prepared to engage in friendly conversation about that week’s text. Romans is the only epistle that Paul wrote to a church that he did not found and to Christians who did not know him. It’s his introduction—and so one of our best windows into the bedrock of Paul’s beliefs and Christian vision. But, as one commentator has written, in Romans, Paul “deals with problems as contemporary as tomorrow’s newspaper.” So it’s also a roadmap Paul has left to help us find a Christian approach to life’s fundamental challenges.
